Sites 4 Students

NoteMesh looks like a great tool for taking, sharing and perfecting class notes. I don't see a use for it in the KRL workday. It would be great to let students know about these tools available on the web.

CoMindWork has some great project management tools I hope to spend more time checking out. You can keep track of multiple projects and connect to a Wiki or/and Blog.

Twitter

Twitter is more like small talk on the web. The twitters I viewed were twittering about their day, what they were eating, the weather and other day to day happenings.

You need to be spontaneous with your twittering. I am not fond of twitter and find it hard to visualize a use for it in my workday at the library. Twitter would be fun to use with my grandchildren.

Facebook

Facebook and My Space could be of value to public library social networking groups. I agree with Meredith Farkas when she writes that libraries cannot just create a page in Facebook with the libraries picturer and call it good. There needs to be more substance, something to not only draw people to the site but keep them interacting with it. Book talks, feedback on programs, music reviews and much more could be discussed here.

Wiki Week 2

I added a brief piece on the History of the Bainbridge Branch Library on the Bainbridge Branch Library practice Wiki.

A Wiki would be a great tool for KRL frontline staff to share ideas, shortcuts and things they learn when using Workflows. We could use a Wiki to share ideas and information when we do an upgrade on Sirsi.

Wiki

The krl2pt0 practice Wiki is a great idea. This gives us the opportunity to practice and at the samt time come up with ideas for the use of a Wiki. KRL could have a Reader's Advisory Wiki. This would be great fun.

Frontline staff could use a Wiki to discuss challenges and solutions to those challenges. This is another new tool to learn and use.

YouTube

I enjoyed watching the YouTube videos. The shipment crate video with Dottie Mae is great. I can see YouTube or something like it being used for training on a number of subjects. Viewing the topic, hearing it explained and being able to view at your leasure are all positives. I watched a grade school student in Ireland show how to made a snowman out of tissue paper. He did a great job. If he can do it we can.

Library Thing

Library Thing made me think about all the books I have read and some of my favorites to post. I plan to use Library Thing to keep track of what I read and to create lists of suggested reading. Martha Bayley gives great book talks, I usually read everything she suggests.
